Not too sure why, but I wish the drums near the start had been changed up slightly and had a fill added in before the main beat kicks in. Otherwise, everything else sounds quite dandy to the ears and this fills me with motivation to complete anything that needs to be done, woo!~

Mackievellian responds:

You know, I never thought of that even once until you've mentioned it.

I wonder if you prefer my round one or final round entry...

Thanks Neko!

This sounds quite inspired by Waterflame, but also reminds me of Donkey Kong Country as well for some reason.

The bass is bliss and I like it a lot. :D The tune carries itself well and sounds victorious in tone.~

Preds responds:

Thank you NekoMika! Glad you liked it

The distortion around 2:40 kind of threw me off for a moment but the overall sound makes me think of a mixture of loneliness, space, and night time. I like the audible background noise of hearing people talk while the piano plays on, as if to show the person playing feels entirely alone within their existence.

Heartbreaking and sad song, beautifully written.

Phonometrologist responds:

While writing, I felt a bit of apprehension when hearing that bass develop to distortion. I haven't really thought of the significance of it, but I felt it was necessary at the time to convey that underlying change of the rhythmic pace of the piano by also developing the soundwave itself.
I appreciate your interpretation and your thoughts on the piece as it gives it a new meaning for me.

Title confused me for a moment because of my browser, almost thought this was a round 2 song. XD

Got to agree with matt-likes-swords, sounds like an emotional scene type music and I dig it.

The guitar sounds beautiful and I love it so much. It ends up complimenting everything else without being overpowering in the process.

Kind of sad how it feels like it ends before it can truly begin but its an excellent short piece.

Mackievellian responds:

Honestly I wished I had more time but LIFE. Thanks for that, glad you like the guitar-ing and hope you like the next one.

Nice to hear you branch out and break away from solely working with a piano to be honest. Always nice to see what someone is capable of when they leave their musical bubble to give other genres a chance.

L-Mity responds:

I'm glad you like it! New genre challenges are always fun. Because every time gives me to new inspiration.

So many retro sound effects, awesome!

Preds responds:

Thank you!

This sounds like an early 90s song, good music style.

The rhythm seems fine, kind of wish the vocals were a little louder but otherwise I'm not hearing anything that could be improved upon honestly. Good stuff, reminds me of grungy indie songs of the 90s.

ConnorDeVaux responds:

Yeah it's my biggest bother, I wanted to completely re-record the vocals. Thanks for the review :)

Composition:
The piano and bass carry this song I feel with the vocals and drums being lead into the song and to bring out the full image, very damn well done too.

Production:
Not hearing any flaws here but not hearing much that I feel could be improved on either. An off-topic comment but almost wonder what this would sound like with a fast paced drum rhythm honestly.

Structure:
The structure of the song is interesting and sounds pleasant. The vocals sound professional and feels like part of an arc to a story. Would not mind hearing more tunes or whole album done with this style from you.

Replayability:
I can see myself wanting to hear this song again on a good day, makes me think back to years ago when I would rarely go to malls and walk around looking at all the stuff on sale there.

Originality:
This seems pretty well done with the a typical story of "not everything is going to be good but there will always be a place to call home if you just look." Lovely.~

GameBoyFireworks responds:

Thank you! Very kind.

This is gloriously purr-fect!

LexRodent responds:

Thanks for listenyan !

The song's buildup is wonderful and sounds inspirational, as if gaining a second wind or the courage to stand up for a friend who's been hurt badly by some isekai villain.

The main tune sounds alright. The drums at 1:06 seem a little out of place to me. If it had been a harder hitting drum piece with heavy reverb, probably would have sounded pretty nice there. Around 2:00, the sudden build back into the beat is rather sudden but not something that really puts one off from the beat too much.

The sudden overall change in tempo at 3:49 is also entirely strange and doesn't fit very well, if anything it clashes with the beat as it comes out of nowhere and the rest of the song never does anything like that again.

Overall, the tune is decent but there are definitely parts that could have been changed up or improved. Outside of the few spots I noted, I think this was a rather decent melody in and of itself.

duly noted, ty!
